Industries

The kinds of CodeIgniter applications I work on

Every business needs something slightly different from its application. Here's how that typically breaks down.

Retail & Distribution

Custom billing and inventory panels, GST-ready invoicing, and stock reports built for shops and distributors around Anna Nagar and Velachery.

Education & Coaching

Custom student portals, fee-tracking modules, attendance systems, and exam/result management built directly on CodeIgniter's MVC structure.

Healthcare & Clinics

Patient record systems with access controls, appointment scheduling modules, and secure prescription handling built to match clinic workflows.

Logistics & Field Operations

Delivery tracking dashboards, driver assignment modules, and REST APIs that feed live status updates to a mobile app.

B2B & Manufacturing

Custom quote and order-approval workflows, multi-level user roles, and ERP data feeds for manufacturing businesses around Ambattur and Avadi.

Internal Business Tools

Admin dashboards, reporting panels, and CRM-style internal tools built exactly to the workflow your team actually uses, not a generic template.

Troubleshooting

Why CodeIgniter applications actually break

Most of my work is stepping into an application another developer or agency left half-fixed. These are the four causes I see most often.

1. A host forces a PHP version upgrade

GoDaddy, Hostinger, and similar hosts periodically push PHP upgrades (7.4 to 8.1+, for example) for compliance reasons, without asking. Older CI3 applications and their third-party libraries often weren't written for the stricter newer PHP, so you get a blank page or a 500 error overnight with no warning. I go through the codebase and fix the compatibility issues directly, so you don't have to rebuild the application just because the host changed something.

2. Custom code was written directly into core files

When a previous developer edits CodeIgniter's system files directly instead of extending them properly through core classes or libraries, every future CodeIgniter update risks wiping out that customisation silently. I rebuild these as proper extended classes and libraries so the application survives future updates.

3. The database outgrows the original query structure

Once a table passes a few hundred thousand rows, unindexed queries built with CodeIgniter's query builder start showing up as real page-load delays — sometimes 6-12 seconds on report or listing pages. I fix this by optimising the slow queries, adding missing indexes, and setting up proper caching so the same lookups aren't repeated on every page view.

4. Form submissions or APIs fail silently

If CSRF protection, validation rules, or JSON response headers aren't configured correctly, forms and API calls can fail without a clear error reaching the frontend. I fix this by checking CodeIgniter's logs directly and tracing exactly where the request is failing, rather than guessing at the config.

CodeIgniter Development Services in Chennai

Types of CodeIgniter work I take on

Most projects fall into one of these categories.

Custom Application Builds

Applications built from scratch on CodeIgniter's MVC structure — clean routing, sensible models, and no shortcuts that cause problems later.

Custom Modules & Libraries

Built as proper CodeIgniter libraries, helpers, and models, not hardcoded overrides to core files that break the next time you update.

CI3-to-CI4 Migration

Moving an application from the legacy CodeIgniter 3 structure to the modern CI4 codebase without losing data, routes, or business logic along the way.

REST API Development

Clean, authenticated REST APIs built on CodeIgniter's routing, used to power mobile apps, dashboards, and third-party integrations.

Payment & Third-Party Integrations

Razorpay, PayU, and Instamojo set up properly, plus ERP, SMS, and WhatsApp API integrations wired into custom controllers.

Speed & Performance

Getting your application to actually load fast — query optimisation, caching, and database cleanup, not just a config tweak.

Background

A quick summary of how I work

You're hiring one developer, not a layer of account managers.

15+ years in production

I've spent fifteen-plus years working inside real PHP and CodeIgniter deployments. Most bugs that stall a support ticket for days, I can usually spot in minutes because I've seen the pattern before.

No hidden subcontracting

Agencies often sell you a senior consultant and hand the actual coding to a junior. I write every line of your project myself.

₹350/hour, AI-assisted

I use AI tooling for routine boilerplate, testing, and documentation. That keeps billed hours — and your cost — down without cutting corners on the actual engineering.

Direct WhatsApp access

No ticketing system, no waiting on email during an outage. You message me directly and get a developer, not a support queue.

Comparison

Me vs. a typical agency

A straightforward comparison, for what it's worth coming from me.

Factor Typical Agency Working With Me
Who you talk to Account manager, not the developer The developer, directly
Pricing Bundled packages, costs add up later Flat ₹350/hr or a clear fixed quote
Turnaround Slowed by internal handoffs Same-day for urgent fixes
Code consistency Varies as staff rotate on and off the project One person, one consistent codebase
Support 9-to-5 ticket queue Direct WhatsApp, including for urgent issues
Pricing

Sample project costs

AI-assisted tooling cuts down the hours I need to bill for routine work, and that saving passes to you.

Task Typical Agency Time My Time Cost
Form / API bug fix 2 – 4 hours 1 hour ₹350 flat
Custom module build 8 – 12 hours 3 – 4 hours ₹1,050 – ₹1,400
CI3-to-CI4 migration 24 – 40 hours 8 – 12 hours ₹2,800 – ₹4,200
Full application build from scratch 32 – 48 hours 10 – 14 hours ₹3,500 – ₹4,900
Note: These are typical ranges, not quotes. You'll get an exact estimate after a free review of your codebase, hosting limits, and third-party library usage.
Getting Started

How the process works

No bureaucracy — just these six steps, in order.

01

Message on WhatsApp

Send details, links, or error logs. You'll get a real technical response, not a sales pitch.

02

Free review

I check your codebase, error logs, and CodeIgniter version to find the actual cause before quoting anything.

03

Fixed estimate

You get a fixed price or a clear hourly estimate before I touch any code.

04

Build the fix

Changes are written as proper isolated modules or libraries where possible, so they survive future updates.

05

Test it properly

Forms, API responses, and load under realistic conditions — checked before anything ships.

06

Deploy safely

Changes go live during your lowest-traffic window, with a full backup taken first.

Performance

Speed tuning for CodeIgniter applications

A slow application loses users. Here's what actually moves the needle.

Query optimisation. Reviewing query builder calls for missing indexes, N+1-style repeated queries inside loops, and unnecessary SELECT * pulls that fetch more data than the page needs.

Server-side caching. Caching expensive database query results and full-page output where appropriate, so CodeIgniter isn't re-running the same lookups on every request.

Autoload cleanup. Auditing what's autoloaded in config/autoload.php — libraries, helpers, and models loaded on every request but only used on a handful of pages add real overhead at scale.

Database cleanup. Clearing old session and log tables, archiving stale data, and indexing the tables that actually get queried on every page load.

Version Expertise

CodeIgniter 3 vs. CodeIgniter 4

"CodeIgniter developer" covers a lot of ground — here's what's actually different about working on these two versions.

CodeIgniter 3. CI3 uses a simple array-based config and a flat MVC folder structure that's easy to reason about, but it's no longer under active core development, and finding well-maintained third-party libraries for it is getting harder. Most of my CI3 work is maintenance, security patching, and PHP 8 compatibility fixes on applications that are stable and don't need a rewrite yet.

CodeIgniter 4. CI4 is a ground-up rewrite with namespaces, PSR-4 autoloading, Composer support, a proper router, and native RESTful resource controllers — closer to how modern PHP frameworks are structured, while staying lighter than Laravel for smaller applications. I use CI4 as my default for new builds unless there's a specific reason to stay on CI3.

Migration path. A CI3-to-CI4 migration isn't a simple version bump — controllers, models, and especially third-party libraries often need to be rewritten against CI4's new structure. I review the codebase first and scope the migration honestly, rather than quoting a number before seeing what's actually involved.

Local to Chennai

A CodeIgniter developer in your timezone — and your city

Being based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu means we work in the same hours. When a form breaks during your morning business rush, you get a reply in minutes — not a response from an outsourced queue the next day.

I work with applications across Anna Nagar, Velachery, Adyar, Guindy, Ambattur, Porur, and OMR, and I'm familiar with the Indian payment gateways and delivery services most Chennai businesses actually integrate with.

I'm also available across Tambaram, Avadi, Chromepet, Perambur, KK Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Sholinganallur, and Medavakkam — and remotely for businesses in the Middle East, Europe, and the US, entirely over WhatsApp and email.

Common Questions

Hiring a CodeIgniter developer in Chennai — FAQ

Straight answers on cost, versions, and timelines.

How much does it cost to hire a CodeIgniter developer in Chennai?
I charge a flat ₹350/hour, billed on AI-assisted hours, with a clear breakdown before work begins. For well-defined scopes, like a payment gateway integration or a CI3-to-CI4 migration, I can also quote a fixed price so there's no surprise later.
What is the difference between CodeIgniter development and hiring a CodeIgniter developer?
They describe the same work from two angles. "CodeIgniter development" refers to the service — building, extending, or maintaining a CodeIgniter application. "Hiring a CodeIgniter developer" refers to the person doing that work. On this page I offer both: direct development services and direct access to me as the developer, without an agency layer in between.
Can you fix a broken or slow CodeIgniter application that another developer or agency built?
Yes — this is one of the most common requests I get. I debug broken controllers, failing models, and conflicting third-party libraries. I start with a free review of your error logs and codebase structure before quoting anything.
Do you support both CodeIgniter 3 and CodeIgniter 4 development?
Yes. CI3 uses the older array-config MVC structure many legacy applications still run on, while CI4 is a modern rewrite with namespaces, Composer support, and a redesigned router. I work with both, and can advise honestly on whether your project should stay on CI3 or move to CI4.
Should I migrate my CodeIgniter 3 application to CodeIgniter 4 immediately?
Not necessarily. CI4 is actively maintained and CI3 reached end of official support, but a full migration is a real project, not a drop-in upgrade — controllers, helpers, and third-party libraries often need rewriting. I review your codebase first and give you an honest cost-benefit answer rather than pushing a migration you may not need yet.
Can you install and configure CodeIgniter on basic shared cPanel hosting setups?
Yes. Most Chennai businesses run CodeIgniter on shared hosting without SSH access. I work within cPanel's limits — configuring .htaccess for clean URLs, adjusting PHP settings, and indexing the database — to get good performance without needing a server upgrade.
Is the initial minor bug review and fix truly free of charge?
Yes. Your first minor issue — a broken form submission, a routing error, a failing API endpoint — is reviewed and fixed free of charge. It's the easiest way for you to judge the quality of my work before paying anything.
Do you build custom CodeIgniter modules, libraries, and helpers from scratch?
Yes. I build them following CodeIgniter's own MVC structure and coding conventions, using proper libraries, helpers, and models, so custom features stay organised and don't turn into unmaintainable spaghetti code.
How long does a typical CodeIgniter project or migration take?
Minor bug fixes or small feature additions are usually same-day. A REST API build typically takes one to two weeks, and a full CI3-to-CI4 migration can take two to six weeks depending on the size of the codebase and how many third-party libraries are involved.
Do you build REST APIs using CodeIgniter?
Yes. I build REST APIs using CodeIgniter's native routing and RESTful controller patterns in CI4, or a well-structured custom REST library in CI3, with proper authentication, rate limiting, and JSON response handling for mobile apps and third-party integrations.
Do you set up Indian payment gateways and third-party integrations in CodeIgniter?
Yes. I regularly set up Razorpay and PayU for payments, Shiprocket for shipping, and WhatsApp order notifications through the Meta Cloud API, all wired into custom CodeIgniter controllers and models.
How do you handle security on a CodeIgniter application?
I enable and correctly configure CodeIgniter's built-in CSRF protection and XSS filtering, use query builder bindings to prevent SQL injection, move sensitive config values out of version control, and add proper session and authentication handling.
Can you connect CodeIgniter to an ERP or external system?
Yes. I write background sync jobs, usually via cPanel cron or CI's own task scheduling, to keep stock levels, orders, and pricing in sync with external ERP or warehouse systems.
Will an upgrade or migration affect my Google rankings?
It shouldn't, if done properly. I map your existing URLs, set up 301 redirects in .htaccess for anything that changes, and keep your metadata intact so your search visibility carries over.
Do you back up my application before making changes?
Always. I take a full backup of your files and a database export before touching production code, so anything can be rolled back immediately if something goes wrong.
Do you use version control like GitHub?
Yes. I keep a clean history of every custom module, migration step, and change I make, so you have visibility into exactly what was modified and when.
